Love isn’t here anymore, but something in me still knows it was.
My mind understands that what once existed has changed, perhaps even ended. But my heart remembers the tenderness, the closeness, the moments that made love feel real.
I can accept that something is gone without pretending it never mattered.
Because there was a time when the sound of a voice could bring a smile to my face, when the simplest moments held the sweetest feelings, when being together was enough and tomorrow felt like a promise.
Those moments passed, but the feelings they woke up didn’t simply disappear.
Sometimes a memory finds me when I’m not even looking. A familiar song, a passing thought, a quiet moment when the world grows still.
And there it is.
A feeling I thought I had laid to rest.
My mind reminds me that life has moved forward, that some chapters have ended, and not every beautiful beginning is promised a forever.
But my heart doesn’t measure love by how long it lasted.
It remembers how deeply it was felt.
I can hold what’s beautiful without forgetting why it ended.
My heart refuses to let go.
Not because I want to return to what was, but because the feelings haven’t learned how to leave.
And perhaps, in time, those memories will no longer arrive with an ache.
They’ll come softly, like an old familiar melody.
One I no longer need to play.
But one I’ll always recognize.
